The idea of creating community spaces through art runs like a common thread through "The Zurich Archipelago." The thread as a connecting element is also at the heart of Regula Michell and Meret Wandeler's long-term performance "Das Häkelobjekt" (The Crochet Object). For over 20 years, once a month, the two of them—either by themselves or with guests—have been crocheting an object made of pink acrylic yarn. The result is a unique, sculptural textile object that over 900 guests have helped to create. They are all interconnected through this "social sculpture."
Wool is also Marion Strunk's preferred medium. She shrouds, wraps, and clothes sculptures and monuments in public spaces with red wool thread. Through these interventions, perceptions shift, and what was previously overlooked suddenly stands out. The three artists discuss how powerful gentle interventions in public spaces can be, and the role that knitting and crocheting play in this process.
